Inverewe Gardens were created by Osgood Mackenzie on a pennilsula overlooking the sea on the north west coast of Scotland. It lies as far north as Labrador. A range of exotic plants are able to thrive here due to a windbreak made from tall trees, and the fact that the Gulf Stream "comes in" here! I'm attempting to find a site to link to here for history and info concerning Inverewe but haven't found one yet. Keep visiting to watch for updates. If you know of such a site, let me know, and I'll add a link to it. Any way on with the photos. These were taken last year in August and September, and show a little of the range of plants here. To appreciate it fully you really must visit it yourself. If you do, make sure that you set aside an entire day for it and take your time - it really is worth it.

If you're planning to visit Inverewe Gardens, a good base would be Ullapool, just some 50 miles away. If so, I heartily recommend The Riverside Hotel for accomodation, and for a good pint of beer or dram of a single malt of your choice, The Ferry Boat Inn. (If you're going to The Ferry Boat Inn, try to ensure you're there on a Thursday night, that's when the local group "Stormbound" play.
